WEL-200: Applications and Installation Tips

WEL-200 safety edge sensor device

EMX’s WEL-200 results in faster installations, reduced wiring complexity, and more reliable performance. Let’s take a closer look at key applications for the WEL-200, as well as installation best practices and common mistakes to avoid to optimize performance.

Key Components and Applications of the WEL-200

The WEL-200 is a wireless edge link system that is designed to connect sensing edges to gate and door operators, eliminating the need for running wires between safety edges and operator control boxes. The WEL-200 kit includes the receiver, which is mounted near the gate operator, and the transmitter, which is attached to the moving gate or door.

The safety edge is connected to the transmitter and is powered by two AA lithium batteries with up to three years of battery life. With a 200-foot line-of-sight operating range, the WEL-200 supports up to four transmitters per receiver.

The WEL-200 can be used on:

  • Automated slide gates (commercial parking facilities, apartment complexes)
  • Swing gates (gated communities, private access roads)
  • Overhead garage doors (warehouses, distribution centers, loading docks)
  • Toll systems
  • Security checkpoints

It helps prevent vehicle or pedestrian entrapment while simplifying installation across a wide range of moving gate applications.

Why the WEL-200 Is Installer-Friendly

The WEL-200 can connect up to four safety edges and has three monitoring output types: NC relay, 10K monitored output, and pulse monitoring. It also features an automatic RF channel selection, which scans 25 available frequencies to avoid interference.

The signal display allows installers to quickly evaluate RF strength on-site, making setup faster and more efficient. Housed in a rugged, watertight NEMA 4X enclosure, the WEL-200 is built to withstand harsh outdoor conditions. It also features long-lasting lithium batteries that provide up to three years of reliable operation—one of the WEL-200’s standout advantages, significantly reducing maintenance visits and total cost of ownership.

The WEL-200 can function with up to 200 feet between transmitters and receivers, making it useful for larger facilities.

Get everything you need in one complete wireless safety edge kit—featuring one transmitter (WEL-200T) and one receiver (WEL-200R). Skip the long, frustrating wiring and eliminate the need for extra components. Just install and go, with a faster, cleaner, and more seamless setup.

Top Installation Tips for Optimal Performance

Let’s take a closer look at how to ensure an easy, headache-free installation process. First, mount the receiver outside of the operator housing. Then ensure proper power supply connection.

Next, install the transmitter on the moving gate or door structure and connect the safety edge to the transmitter. Pair the receiver and transmitter, then verify signal strength and test the system by activating the safety edge manually.

Maintain a clear line of sight between the transmitter and receiver, ensuring there are no obstructions that could impact performance. Metal objects, in particular, can degrade RF signals, weaken the wireless connection, and reduce battery life.

Additionally, keep the antenna at least 1–1.5 inches away from any metal surfaces to prevent connection issues that may further affect battery performance. Avoid covering the antenna during installation. And lastly, use the correct batteries—AA lithium batteries provide optimal performance and can last up to three years.
